Dating safely

Most people you meet are exactly who they say. These habits protect you from the few who aren’t.

Report romance scams to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre

If someone you met online asks for money, gift cards or crypto, stop contact. Call your local police, contact your bank, and report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre on 1-888-495-8501 or through its online Fraud Reporting System.

Contacting Montreal police

In an emergency, call 911. For fraud, you can file a complaint with your local SPVM neighbourhood station, and Info-Crime Montréal takes anonymous tips on 514-393-1133. The SPVM also advises meeting people from online in a busy public place.

Getting home late on the STM

Night buses, numbered in the 300s, run from about 1am to 5am every night across most of the island. From 7:30pm, if you are travelling alone you can ask the driver to let you off between stops, closer to home.
